Feel at Ease During Your Dental Visit
Our team understands that dental anxiety is a real concern for many people. Whether it’s the sound of the drill, the thought of a procedure, or the discomfort of sitting in the chair, these worries can make it difficult to take care of your oral health.
That’s why we offer sedation dentistry to help create a calm, relaxed experience for all our patients. Sedation dentistry is designed to ease anxiety, prioritizing comfort and stress reduction.
Whether you need a routine cleaning, fillings, extractions, or more extensive surgery, sedation can help you stay relaxed and at ease throughout your visit. Contact us to schedule your next appointment today.
Why Consider Sedation Dentistry?
If you find yourself avoiding necessary dental care because of anxiety or discomfort, sedation dentistry may be the solution. It’s especially beneficial for those who:
- Experience high levels of anxiety before or during dental visits
- Need extensive dental work, like fillings or extractions
- Have a fear of dental instruments or a sensitive gag reflex
- Want a more relaxed, comfortable experience
Types of Sedation Offered
Patient safety is our top priority, and all of our sedation options are used with the utmost care. Each type of sedation is thoroughly monitored so that you remain comfortable and safe throughout your treatment.
Our team will discuss your medical history and any medications you are taking to determine the best sedation option for your needs.
We offer 3 primary types of sedation, each designed to suit different levels of anxiety and the complexity of your procedure.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation that helps you relax during routine dental procedures, such as cleanings, fillings, or check-ups. This fast-acting gas is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose, producing a calming effect that wears off quickly once the mask is removed.
Nitrous oxide is safe for both adults and children, making it an excellent option for those with dental anxiety or for younger patients needing a little extra comfort.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment to help you feel relaxed and calm.
Depending on the dosage, you may feel drowsy or even fall asleep during the procedure, though you’ll still be conscious and able to respond to instructions. Oral sedation is often used for more complex procedures like fillings, extractions, and dental surgeries.
IV Sedation
For patients with more severe dental anxiety or those undergoing invasive procedures, IV sedation provides a deeper level of relaxation. Administered through an intravenous line, this form of sedation allows us to control the level of sedation during your treatment.
IV sedation ensures that you remain deeply relaxed, with little to no memory of the procedure afterward. It is ideal for patients who need more extensive work done or those who are particularly anxious about dental visits.
Aftercare for Sedation Dentistry
After your procedure, you may feel drowsy, especially with oral or IV sedation. It’s important to arrange for someone to accompany you home and stay with you until the effects wear off. You should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery for the remainder of the day.
In the case of nitrous oxide, most patients can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, if you’ve had oral or IV sedation, you should plan for a few hours of rest.
Your Comfort Is Our Priority
We believe every patient deserves a relaxed and comfortable experience when visiting us. Whether you’re coming in for a routine cleaning or a more involved dental procedure, our sedation options can help ease your anxiety around your visit.
